We left for the airport early, and I then slept the entire flight. After arriving at the King Shaka International Airport (near Durban) we drove to Underberg. We spent the night in these cute little fishing cabins.
The next morning we took a guided tour up the Sani Pass. Our guide drove us up into the Drakkensburg to the Lesotho highlands.

Lesotho is an independent country located in the interior of South Africa, so we had to go through the border and get our passports stamped just to get there. Driving up the pass was an experience. My PT Cruiser would not have made it, which is why we went with a professional in his vehicle specifically for the purpose of ascending this mountain pass. The drive was exciting and the views were marvelous.
Lesotho was unlike anything I have ever experienced. When we pulled up at the border post there a few officials guns and all were out front skinning a goat for lunch. After taking a few pictures of that we went to a shepherding village.
They have herds of goats and sheep, and the people live in traditional rondavals. In the centre of the room they have their fire; in it they burn cow dung, and when they build their floors they lay down rocks and then they plaster it in with cow dung so that when the fire is burning the heat continues to pass through the floor like in floor heating. I thought that was genius, they do not have any of our modern conveniences.
After exploring the village we ate at the highest pub in Africa, located at 2874 metres. It gets quite cold up there, and they do get snow.
